Did you receive a traffic citation? The Collier County Clerk of Courts can help you figure out the next steps. Go to https://www.collierclerk.com/court-divisions/traffic/ to learn more.
There are several different options that are available to resolve the citation. The first option is to pay the citation. However, by paying the ticket you are admitting that you are guilty, and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles may add points on your driving record for moving violations.
The second option is to complete driver improvement school. If you pick this option, adjudication may be withheld. The citation cost may be reduced, and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will not add points to your driving record for moving violations. However, you must submit a course certificate of completion form to the Collier County Clerk’s Office for this option to be completed and there are limits on how many times school election can be used.
The third option would be to request a court hearing. To do this, you must complete the “Traffic Citation Option Form” located here: Traffic Forms – Collier Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller. This form is to be submitted to the Traffic Department of the Collier County Clerk of Courts for a hearing to be requested. This form can be submitted via our website or in person at the courthouse or one of our satellite offices. Once you have requested a hearing, you forfeit your right to pay the citation penalty and the chance to complete driver improvement school.
If you are found guilty, in some cases, you can be fined up to $1,000.00 with additional court costs. You have 30 calendar days from the date the citation was issued to you to sort out the issues with the citation you received. If those issues are not resolved prior to the 30 calendar days, your driver’s license may be suspended.
