InvestigationsWhat Prompts an Investigation? An investigation is typically initiated following an assessment of a complaint or allegation received. Upon review, a determination is made regarding whether the matter merits a full investigation. The OIG’s Public Integrity Unit-Investigations Section is responsible for conducting administrative investigations of suspected fraud, waste or abuse involving Board of County Commissioners (BCC) funded programs, operations, and activities along with the Clerk’s Office. If investigative findings indicate potential criminal conduct, the matter will be referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency for further review and possible prosecution. All investigations are conducted in accordance with the Association of Inspectors General – Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General and the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) Standards. ObjectivesThe primary objective of an OIG investigation is to determine whether allegations of fraud, waste, or abuse (to include gross mismanagement) can be substantiated. Investigations that uncover administrative wrongdoing generally identify violations of law, policy or regulations. Investigative reports also seek to identify the individuals responsible and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Investigation DispositionsEach investigation is concluded with one of the following dispositions:
