Honoring Our Heroes: From Military Service to Public Service at the Collier County Clerk’s Office

Veterans Day is a legal Federal holiday dedicated to remembering all of the brave men and woman who have served in our armed forces. The origin of Veterans Day goes back to 1918 when on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as the “Great War.” Commemorated in many countries as Armistice day the following year, November 11th become a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. After World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day in the United States.

Transitioning from military to civilian life can be challenging, but many veterans have found that their time in the armed forces instilled skills and values that translate seamlessly into public service. Among our team are several veterans who have not only served their country but now continue to serve their community with the same sense of duty, honor, and integrity. This Veterans Day, I want to take a moment to recognize these exceptional individuals whose military experience has helped shape their work in public service at the Clerk’s Office:

  • David Aguilar – United States Navy
  • Josiah Arizmendi – United States Army
  • Samual Bogard – United States Air Force/Air National Guard
  • Anthony Deluca – United States Navy
  • Timothy Jones – United States Army
  • Kathy Quinlivan – United States Army
  • Guadalupe Santiago – United States Marine Corps
  • Andrew Schaefer – United States Air Force
  • Amarilly Solis-Hernandez – United States Army National Guard
  • Joshua Wartchow – United States Marine Corps
  • Michael Wheatley – United States Army

For these veterans, service didn’t end when they left the military. They are a testament to the lasting impact of military service and the profound sense of duty that drives individuals to continue giving back, long after their time in uniform has ended.

This Veterans Day, we express our deepest gratitude, we honor your sacrifices and celebrate the unique strengths you bring to our team. Your legacy of service is an inspiration to us all.

Recently, I also attended the 7th Annual Salute to Veterans Luncheon and worked with our local constitutional officers including Sheriff Kevin Rambosk; Melissa Blazier, Supervisor of Elections; Rob Stoneburner, Collier County Tax Collector; and Vickie Downs, Collier County Property Appraiser-elect to fund a table for local WWII Veterans. This year’s keynote speaker is Jeffrey Bull, an 18-year United States Navy SEAL officer and member of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Remember to thank a Veteran this Veterans’ Day, we appreciate all those who have served and continue to serve.
