Celebrating Constitution Day & Citizenship Day

Each year on September 17, we observe Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, a time to reflect on the foundation of our country and the privileges and responsibilities that come with U.S. citizenship. The date marks the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, a document that continues to guide and protect the rights of every American today.

At the Collier County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller’s Office, we are proud to honor this important occasion by highlighting the significance of civic engagement, constitutional rights, and public service.

The U.S. Constitution is the oldest written national constitution still in use. It defines the structure of our government and enshrines fundamental freedoms such as freedom of speech, the right to due process, and equal protection under the law. Constitution Day is an opportunity for all Americans to revisit the rights and responsibilities that form the backbone of our nation.

Citizenship Day, also observed on September 17, recognizes individuals who have become U.S. citizens, whether through birth or naturalization. The Clerk’s Office plays a meaningful role in this journey by providing access to important records, administering oaths of office, and supporting the judicial processes that uphold our laws. Naturalization ceremonies are often held around this date nationwide, where new citizens pledge their loyalty to the United States and commit to actively participating in civic life.

To commemorate the day, we encourage residents of Collier County to:

  • Read the Constitution or explore its amendments and share it with a student!
  • Attend a local civics or history event, including those hosted by schools and public libraries.
  • Register to vote, update your voter information, or learn more about your local government.
  • Thank a public servant who helps protect and uphold your constitutional rights.

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day remind us of the importance of civic duty and informed participation in our government. Whether you’re casting a ballot, serving on a jury, or simply learning more about your rights, your role as a citizen matters. At the Clerk’s Office, we are committed to ensuring transparency, access, and trust in the services that support our constitutional system.
