As the official record keeper, financial watchdog, and steward of public trust in Collier County, the Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller is proud to participate in International Fraud Awareness Week, observed this year from November 16-25, 2025. This global initiative, led by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), shines a spotlight on the devastating impact of fraud, and empowers organizations and communities to fight back.
Why Fraud Awareness Matters
Fraud is not just a corporate issue or a financial inconvenience, it affects every level of society, from local governments to small businesses and individual citizens. Globally, occupational fraud alone causes an estimated $4.7 trillion in annual losses, according to the ACFE’s most recent Report to the Nations. As a Fraud Week Ambassador, we are using this opportunity to educate, inform, and engage our community in recognizing and reporting fraudulent activity.
Our Commitment to Prevention and Detection
The Clerk’s Office plays a critical role in detecting and preventing fraud across county government. Our Division of Inspector General performs independent audits and investigations, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are protected and county operations remain accountable.
We offer tools for the public to help protect themselves, including:
- Risk Alert: A free service that notifies property owners if a deed or other land record is recorded in their name.
- Audit Reports and Public Records Access: Conveys transparency in county finances and operations which can be found on our website.
- Community Education: Presentations that inform citizens about how to avoid scams, identity theft, and fraudulent schemes.
How You Can Help
- Stay Informed: Follow updates from the Clerk’s Office for tips, resources, and risk mitigation tools.
- Sign Up for Alerts: Use our free Risk Alert system to monitor your property records.
- Report Suspicions: If you see something, say something. Report suspected fraud through our Inspector General’s Office: Call our Hotline 24/7 at 1-844-253-7544 (844-ClerkIG)
