In recognition of Women\u2019s History Month, we take time to reflect on the women whose leadership and service helped build the foundation of Collier County. Throughout our county\u2019s history, women have served in roles of responsibility. Their commitment to integrity, accountability, and public service shaped how justice and essential court functions are delivered to our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of those influential leaders was Margaret T. Scott, the first woman to serve as Clerk of the Circuit Court in Collier County. Appointed and later elected in her own right, she served for 17 years, guiding the office through growth and change. When the county seat moved from Everglades to East Naples in 1962, Margaret Scott designed the county seal and the county flag, which features a wild turkey as part of the emblem. Her legacy extended beyond the courtroom, shaping the office that continues to serve you today.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am proud to lead an office built on a standard for excellence and one of our many initiatives is to expand accessibility for our residents. Processes have evolved to electronic court case management, mobile e-recording, on-line marriage ceremonies, online certified copies, electronic legal advertising for public notices, expanded passport services, and the convenience of online court appearances in certain case types. We are committed to continue enhancing the services we offer and to provide quality services to our citizens in our ever-evolving history. Melissa Blazier was appointed as Collier County Supervisor of Elections by Governor DeSantis in May 2023 and was subsequently elected during the 2024 Primary Election. Blazier has worked for the Supervisor of Elections office since 2006 and prior to being named Supervisor, she served as Chief Deputy Supervisor of Elections under Jennifer J. Edwards. Collier County reached a historic milestone with the appointment of its first female county leader, Amy Patterson, as County Manager. Since June 2022, she has served as County Manager, overseeing a $2.2 billion budget and more than 2,000 employees, following her tenure as Deputy County Manager.
