BD-PL20250005725 Attachment G -Support Letter Good Morning My name is Thomas Curry and I live with my spouse at 7229 Wiregrass Court in Winding Cypress. We bought our retirement home in Collier County because of the many great things about living in Naples and southwest Florida. We love living in Collier County but now things will change with the addition of four more pickleball courts 165 feet from our home and the noise it will create. We are speaking for ourselves and our adjacent neighbors who fully agree. We are retired couples trying to live peaceful lives. We bought our retirement home knowing there was a single set of four pickleball courts 260 ft. behind our home shielded by three tennis courts. We have learned to live with the current annoyance from noise from the existing courts. Unfortunately, the proposed conversion of Tennis Court 5 to four more pickleball courts 165 feet from our adjacent homes will result in an intolerable noise situation from both the ball play as well as the always accompanied yelling and cheering by the players. The current Collier County noise ordinance limits are 60 dBA from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The current construction documents for this project contain no sounds mitigation. For this reason, the residents of Wiregrass Court commissioned a $5,000 sound study with PSM Consulting, a firm with experience of completing over 100 similar studies. PSM Consulting confirmed the sound levels of 8 pickleball courts165 feet away from adjacent residences will exceed the County's noise ordinance limits of 60 dBA based on typical sound emission levels from active pickleball play. Without appropriate noise control mitigation, the expanded courts will negatively impact the quality of life for nearby residents. `Lk'rim t= PSM Consulting's conclusion is sound mitigation efforts are required to meet county noise level limits by having 10x ft. high by 224 ft. long sound reflecting tempered glass panels on the side of the new pickleball court facing adjacent residences and along the side of the new and existing pickleball courts facing the pond. The affected sound mitigation requires a custom support system that needs to be specified in the SDPI. The recommended sound reflecting glass panels are impervious to sun damage and are hurricane rated to avoid potential damage from flying structures during extreme weather conditions. The point here is installing a standard chain link fence will not support the recommended sound mitigation system. Currently the EPA's (Environmental Protection Agency) Noise Ordinance for Pickleball recommends the distance from pickleball courts to adjacent residential homes be 800 feet. Please envision yourself in your outdoor lanai being exposed to noise every day from 8 pickleball courts with 32 players plus onlookers only 165 feet from your home. Numerous municipalities and counties are having similar concerns about pickleball noise in areas adjacent to residential homes, with many adopting the EPA's Noise Ordinance for Pickleball. We want a solution where Collier County can help us, either by stopping the proposed new courts or making the project install a sound mitigation system sufficient to block the noise. We need a solution that is proactive rather than reactive.
