A RESOLUTION URGING PROHIBITION OF
OFF SHORE DRILLING.

WHEREAS, Collier County's economic well-being is dependent
upon tourism, predominately centered around the natural beauty of
our beaches and coastal waters; and

WHEREA~, the exploitation of oil reserves in the coastal
waters off ~ollier County's coastline threatens very valuable and
sensitive nltural systems as well as the economic well-being of
Collier COUIty; and

WHEREA~>, Congressman Porter Goss has intrcduced House of

Representat~ve's Bills HR 7~ and HR 73 which provide for a 10 year
moratorium on all Outer ConLinental Shelf leasjng and drilling off

the coastal waters of Floric'a, cancels the oil leases around the
Florida Keys, and establish~s a scientific rev1aw panel to assess
the adequac:{ of scientific l\.:td environmental ir formation before
any new exploration or exploitation is approved; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that the citizei s of Collier County
notify the United States Corgress of their sUPllort for measures
that would protect the coas' \1 waters of Collil C' County from oil
spills and other environmen 11 disasters assoc:.ated with the
exploration ~or and exploit. tion of oil reserves off the coast of
Collier County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BO~J OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COtNTY, FLORIDA, that:
