RESOLUTION NO. 95- 203
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDS FOR
THE COLLIER COUNTY BEACH RESTORATION PROJECT UNDER
PROVISIONS OF SECTION 161.101, FLORIDA STATUTES
WHEREAS,
on February 23,
1988,
the Board of County
commissioners approved a Collier County Beach Nourishment study to
address the loss of sand and restoration methods along the Gulf of
Mexico shoreline within the limits of Collier County,
Florida:
and
WHEREAS, on April 11, 1991, an Environmental and Sand Source
Report was completed which supports the conclusion that a beach
restoration project utilizing the locally available sand source
supply is feasible with a minimum potential for adverse
environmental impact to sensitive hard bottom areas; and
WHEREAS, Collier County desires to construct a beach
restoration project as part of their erosion control program at an
estimated cost of $17,506,661.00; and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 161.101, Florida
Statutes, the Department of Environmental Protection, Division of
Environmental Resource Permitting, is accepting Grant Applications
in an amount not exceeding 75% of the total cost of such projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Environmental
Resource Permitting, is requested to approve the enclosed Grant
Application in an amount of $10,372,696.00 for the purpose of
constructing the described beach restoration project.
