RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF APPLICATION FOR FUNDS
FOR THE VANDERBILT BEACH RESTORATION PROJECT
UNDER PROVISIONS OF SECTION 161.101, FLORIDA STATUTES
WHEREAS,

1988,
the
Boa rd
of
County
COlDDissioners appro""ed a ColI ier County Beach Nourishment study to
address the loss of sand and re"tor~tion methods along the Gulf of
Mexico shoreline ~ithin the limits of Collier County, Florida; and
WHEREAS, on April 11,1991, an Environmental and Sand Source
Report was completed ...hich zupports the conclusion that a beach
restoration project utilizing the locally availuble sand source
supply is feasible ~ith a ~inimum potential for ~dverse environmental
impact to sensitive hard botto~ areas; and
WHEREAS, on May 4, 199] the Board of County Commissioners
approved a Professiona 1 Serv ices Agreer.1cnt to prepare a Prel iminary
Design for the Collier County Beach Restoration and Management Plan
which includes the ~/anderbilt Beach Restoration Project; and
WHEREAS, Public Works projects and studies relating to beach
erosion control, beach preservation, d:1d hurricane protection, are
eligible for state func1in9 ccnsideration under provisions of Section
161.101, Florida Statutes.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COKKISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUHTY, FLORI DA, that the Coll ier County
Board of County Commissioners supports the application for 1unds for
the Vanderbilt Beach Restoration Project from the Florida Department
of Environmental Protection, Division ot Beaches ~nd Shores under its
Beach Erosion Control Assistance Progr~m.
