Resolution 1997-007 RESOLUTION NO. 97- 7 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVING A GRANT REQUEST TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HIGHWAY BEAUTIFICATION COUNCIL FOR THE BEAUTIFICATION OF A PORTION OF STATE ROAD 29 (ALSO KNOWN AS "MAIN STREEr IN IMMOKALEE FROM 1rT STREET TO 9Tlt STREET) AND AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR TO APPLY FOR A HIGHWAY BEAUTlFICATION GRANT FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HIGHWAY BEAUTIFICATION COUNCIL FOR A PORTION OF STATE ROAD 29 (ALSO KNOWN AS "MAIN STREIT IN IMMOKALEE FROM 1rT STREET TO 9TH STREET). JAN - 7 1997 WHEREAS, pu~uant to SectIons 339.24 and 339.2405, Florida Statutes, the Florida Department of Transportation established the Florida Highway Beautification Council to Implement and oversee a statewide beautifICation program for state transportation facilities. Including state roads and highways; and WHEREAS. pu~uant to SectIon 339.24, Fiorida Statutes, such beautification activities are recognized by the Legislature as COntributing to the prevention of Iitter,W1d WHEREAS. the Florida Highway Beautification Council Is empowered, by Section 339.2405(7)(a} (1900), Florida Statutes, inter alia, to provide local governments and local highway beautiflcation councils with Information regarding the State Highway Beautification Grants Program; to accept and to review grant requests from local government; to maintain a prioritized list of approved grant requests, and to recommend to the Florida Department of Transportation the award of certain grant requests; and WHEREAS, pu~uant to SectIon 339.2405, Florida Statutes, local highway beautification councils may be created by local governmental entities; and WHEREAS, a grant request must be approved by the local government prior to submission of such grant request to the Florida Highway Beautification Council; and WHEREAS. the Immokalee Beautification Municipal Services, Taxing Unit Advisory Committee requests approv~1 by the Board of County CommlSlione~ of a grant request for the o second phase of Collier County's/lmmokalee Community's Downtown revitalizationlbeautlfication project, the scope of which is for an approximate .502 mile segment of State Road 29 (also known 81 "Main Streer, from 1" Street to 9~ Street [Mile Post 37.326 to 37.828]), and contemplates beautification by planting and maintaining attractive landscaping along the above-desctibed portion of State Road 29; and WHEREAS, in furtherance thereof, the Board of County Commisslone~ desiras to approve the grant request and to authorize the County Administrator to apply for a Highway Beautification Grant. WHEREAS, such project shall constitute the second phase of the three-phase Streetscape Beautification Master Plan planned and Implemented by Collier County Government, the "Main Streer Program Organization, the Collier County Airport Authority, the Immokalee Beautification MSTU Advisory Committee and area residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that SECTION 1. The Board of County Commissioners approves the grant nequest to the FIor1da Highway BeautiflC8tion Council for the beautification of that portion of State Road 29 (also known 81 "Main Street"), from 1" Street to 9"' Street In Immokalee, Colllef' County, F1oflda. SECTION 2. The Board of County Commissioners authorizes the County Administrator to sign the Grant Application documents to the Florida Highway BeautifICation CouncIl for the Highway Beautification Grant for that portion of State Road 29 (also known as "Main Street"). from 1" Street to 9"' Street In Immokalee, ColHer County, Florida. SECTION 3.
