BOARD OP COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
REOUEST THAT HRS, EMS DIVISto :
AMEND CURRENT RULES TO ALLOW
NATIONALLY REGISTERED PARAMEDICS
AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS
TO ENTER THE FLORIDA EMS WORK
FORCE
WHEREAS, Paramedics and ENT's provide a unique and highly technical
service to the citizens and visitor, of Collier County; and
WHEREAS, current shortages exist throughout the Florida Emergency
Medical Services community for certified Paramedics end EMTs that are
G'ialified to wcrk with the Stare; and
WHEREAS, Collier County recognizes that twenty-nine other states
currently accept the National Registry for Paramedics and EMT,; and
•
WHEREAS, Collier County and the entire State of Florida Emergency
Medical Services provider community would benefit by the availability of a
nationwide pool of eligible candidates currently possessing the National
•
Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic Registry; and
WHEREAS. Florida training center, have been unable to effectively meet
the de^ands of providing the necessary numbers of Paramedic graduate, to
meet the needs within the region; and
WHEREAS, Paramedics and ►.MT vacancies must be filled in a timely basis
to reduce costly overtime, system fatigue, and protect the public health.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida that the Department of FIRS, EMS Division, is
requested to review and take appropriate action that would allow Paramedics
and EMTs possessing current National Registry certification to have an
opportunity to gain employment within the Florida Emergency Medical Services
provider community in a timely manner.

of this Board.
