Resolution 2007-217 RESOLUTION No. 2007- 217 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, CONVEYING THEIR PREFERENCE REGARDING THE MANAGEMENT PLAN ALTERNATIVES FOR THE EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK. WHEREAS, Collier County exists with 80% of its land dedicated to that of conservation, and WHEREAS, Collier County's outdoor cultural heritage and is inextricably linked to the Everglades, and WHEREAS, Everglades City, Chokoloskee, and Plantation Island are within Collier County, and WHEREAS, Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve Addition surround these communities, and WHEREAS, the economic viability of these communities is dependent upon access to local and regional marine areas by motorized vessels, and WHEREAS, it was reported to the Board of County Commissioners that the Everglades Restoration would benefit Collier County visitors and residents by improving sport and commercial fisheries, water quality, and sheet flow into the Ten Thousand Island and Everglades National Park, and WHEREAS, the National Parks Service's Newsletter 4 acknowledges, through Preliminary Alternatives B, C, and D of the Everglades Management Plan, it's intention to reduce, restrict and or ban motorized vessels access to fisheries, and WHEREAS, these restrictions would also adversely impact the ability to observe wildlife or other resources, and WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners believes that these restrictions will not be in the best interest of the residents and visitors to Collier County, our cultural heritage or economy, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER CONTY FLORIDA, that: Section 1: Preliminary Alternative "A" of Newsletter 4 is the only alternative supportable by the Board of County Commissioners at this time, and any future alternatives must give consideration to avoiding adverse economic impact to Collier County.
