Backup Documents 05/25/2021 Item #16H1 1 6H PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, drug addiction is a community-wide problem, requiring a community-wide response; and WHEREAS, drug-related crime causes hundreds of thousands of dollars of losses each year to Collier County residents, businesses, and government; and WHEREAS, drug courts focus on reducing crime and saving money through a program of intensive intervention and treatment for addicted persons in the criminal justice system; and WHEREAS, drug courts achieve these goals by emphasizing accountability, honesty, and personal responsibility on the part of the addicted person; and WHEREAS, drug courts aim to help these individuals find a lasting recovery that allows them to repair their relationships, make whole their victims, and become contributing members of society; and WHEREAS, drug courts facilitate community-wide partnerships, bringing together public safety and public health professionals in the fight against drug addiction, criminal behavior, and recidivism; and WHEREAS, Collier County is committed to reducing crime, supporting recovery from addiction, and saving community resources; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 2021, be designated as NATIONAL DRUG COURT MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY The Board encourages all citizens to support the Collier County Drug Court in its efforts to reduce crime and facilitate a lasting recovery for its participants.
