EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Tania Santos, Public Services Department, Domestic Animal
Services (DAS) as the May 2021 Employee of the Month.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant
contributions to the organization and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Tania is a Customer Service Specialist at Domestic Animal Services (DAS) and
has been with the County since 2005.
In her work with DAS, Tania encounters many customers each week, yet never fails to treat each one with
the utmost dignity, courtesy, respect, and kindness. She maintains a level-head and shows compassion
and respect to all individuals.
Tania has the unique talent to remember customers and their animals for years after they have visited the
facility, and always takes the time to ask about the animal’s well-being. Recently, a family came to DAS
when their dog “Puppy,” whom they adopted in 2007, had passed away. Tania immediately recognized
the family and asked how “Puppy” was doing. Despite the family’s loss, Tania’s kind-hearted concern
and remembrance of their sweet “Puppy” helped ease and comfort the family. Tania also recently took a
lost dog call for a missing Yorkie and advised the customer to go on -line to a specific community social
media page where the caller recognized her missing dog. The owner was reunited with her dog, and
thanks to Tania being aware of the resource and pro-active in communicating the information, the owner
didn’t have a need to go to DAS, which ultimately saved DAS and the owner money.
In the last month, Tania has been the recipient of three separate County VIP Awards, having been
recognized by her co-workers for Quality, Service, and Respect. In addition, her excellent customer
service is frequently mentioned in DAS’s customer satisfaction surveys. Every day before the shelter
opens, Tania looks at her co-workers and says, “today is going to be the best day ever,” and her co-
workers say this spark of positivity inspires them to start their day with a smile! She displays the value of
respect in everything she does and with everyone she interacts with.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Employee of the Month” receives a $150.00 cash award. Funds for
this are available in the employee’s budget cost center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with
this Executive Summary.
