EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Resolution recognizing forty years of exemplary service by Collier
County Emergency Medical Services to the community and authorizing the expenditure of funds
for an employee recognition/appreciation event as constituting a valid public purpose.

OBJECTIVE: To approve the expenditure of funds for an employee recognition/appreciation event to
celebrate forty years of providing emergency medical service to Collier County.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Board of County Commissioners established the Collier County Department
of Emergency Medical Services (“Collier EMS”) on April 18, 1981. Collier EMS is a consolidated
agency that provides emergency medical services for the cities of Naples, Marco Island, Everglades, as
well as all unincorporated areas including North Naples, East Naples, Golden Gate, Big Corkscrew, and
Immokalee. Collier EMS now responds to more than 38,000 calls requiring emergency medical services
each year, covering 2,023 square miles, with stations strategically positioned to provide quick response
capability. Collier EMS operates twenty-four (24) stations encompassing twenty-five (25) full time
ground transport ambulances as well as a MedFlight helicopter available for emergency response twenty-
four (24) hours a day, seven days a week. Collier EMS achieved accreditation for its ground ambulance
service for the past nine years from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and for its
air ambulance service for the past six years from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport
Systems, an achievement earned by very few agencies.
Collier EMS wishes to recognize the efforts put forth by its dedicated employees for providing forty years
of exemplary service to the public by holding an employee recognition/appreciation luncheon over the
course of three consecutive days (to capture all three shifts of approximately 200 emergency medical
personnel) to celebrate forty (40) years of providing award winning service to the community. A
Resolution requesting that the Board approve the expenditure of funds in an amount not to exceed
$500.00, which memorializes the valid public purpose related to the use of those funds, is attached.
FISCAL IMPACT: Expend an amount not to exceed $500.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority
vote for Board approval. -SRT
GROWTH IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approve and authorize its Chair to sign the attached Resolution
recognizing forty years of exemplary service provided by Collier County Emergency Medical Services to
the community and authorizing the expenditure of funds in an amount not to exceed $500.00 for an
employee recognition/appreciation event as constituting a valid public purpose.
