EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Parks
Service, Big Cypress National Preserve to continue maintaining a Permanent Global Positioning
System (GPS) base station at the Big Cypress National Preserve Headquarters.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval of an updated MOU with the National Parks Service, Big Cypress
National Preserve where Collier County will continue to maintain a permanent GPS Base Station which
was installed in and maintained since 2005.
CONSIDERATIONS: In 2005, the County installed several GPS Base Stations, comprised of an
antenna, solar panels and a locked cabinet, at strategic points throughout the County for the purpose of
providing GPS data for Surveying and Engineering measurements. The National Parks Service at Big
Cypress Preserve agreed to allow the County to install and maintain one of these GPS Base Stations at
their Headquarters facilities location in Big Cypress Preserve in order to obtain valuable information in a
remote area when Surveying and Engineering measurements are needed. Through the agreement, there
is no cost to the County for the usage of their property. The County will remain responsible for the
maintenance or upgrades to the equipment for efficient operations.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. Funding for equipment
updates and repairs will be budgeted within Transportation Operating Fund (101), Road
Maintenance Cost Center (163620) as required.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact associated with this
action.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires a majority
vote for approval. -DDP
RECOMMENDATION: Recommendation to approve the attached Memorandum of Understanding
and authorize the Chairman to execute the agreement on behalf of the County.
