EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a resolution authorizing the County Manager or his designee to: 1)
complete and sign all documents and 2) take all actions necessary to accept a $350,000 distribution
and any future distributions to Collier County for use by Domestic Animal Services from the
Sharol A. Murphy Revocable Trust and to approve any necessary Budget Amendments.
OBJECTIVE: To accept a distribution from the Sharol A. Murphy Revocable Trust for use by Collier
County Domestic Animal Services (DAS).
CONSIDERATIONS: The Raymond James Trust informed DAS that it has a beneficial interest in the
Sharol A. Murphy Revocable Trust. To accept the donation, the Raymond James Trust requires that the
Collier County Board of County Commissioners (Board) adopt a resolution appointing an authorized
representative to act on its behalf. Fund are required to be used DAS general tax-exempt purposes.
As of the writing of this Executive Summary, the exact amount of the beneficial interest was not able to
be calculated but it is expected to be $350,000 less any fees, including but not limited to, a tax preparation
fee which is estimated at $750 for the tax year 2020 and possibly 2021. The donation is expected to be
paid in one distribution but there may be another distribution for interest.
A “Charitable Entity Information Form” and “Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and
Certification” are required to be submitted and both are back-up to the item. Additional documents may
be required in the future. If the Board approves this item, the County Manager or designee will be given
authority to take all actions necessary for DAS to receive distribution(s) without further Board action.
This authority applies to the initial distribution and any potential future distributions.
FISCAL IMPACT: The distribution provided by the Sharol A. Murphy Revocable Trust in the estimated
amount of $350,000 will be deposited in Domestic Animal Services Trust Fund (180). In order to utilize
the funds a Budget Amendment is required. There is no requirement for a County match.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved for form and legality and requires a majority vote
for Board approval. -JAB
