EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve and execute a Transportation Post Project Maintenance Agreement
between the Florida Department of Transportation (F.D.O.T.) and Collier County for the
maintenance of the previously realigned canal (B-2) at the Pine Ridge Road Interchange
and authorize the Chairman to sign the Resolution and execute the agreement.
OBJECTIVE: To approve and execute a Transportation Post Project Maintenance Agreement between
the F.D.O.T. and Collier County for the maintenance of the previously realigned canal (B-2) at the Pine
Ridge Road Interchange.
CONSIDERATIONS: After the original Interstate 75 (I-75) construction, F.D.O.T. realigned the Canal
B-2 under Financial Project # 200746-1-52-01 away from the Pine Ridge Road Interchange to provide a
more cost-effective crossing. When this was done, this section of the canal was never given back to the
County as part of the primary flood control system. This resolution provides for operation and
maintenance of the canal system in order to meet proper flood protection.
Collier County will be responsible, at its costs, for the maintenance of the canal within the limits, including
all above ground maintenance together with routine mowing, dredging, and debris removal.
Collier County has a Cooperative Agreement with the Big Cypress Basin/South Florida Water Management
District for the operation and maintenance of the primary flood control system. Through this Agreement,
Collier County will assign the maintenance of this segment of canal to the Big Cypress Basin for its
operation and maintenance, with the understanding that the F.D.O.T. will hold Collier County responsible
for the terms of this Transportation Post Project Maintenance Agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. The routine maintenance of the I-
75 Canal from Immokalee Road to the Golden Gate Main Canal is within the Big Cypress Basin budget.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact associated with this
action.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for Board approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To approve and execute a Transportation Post Project Maintenance
Agreement between the Florida Department of Transportation (F.D.O.T.) and Collier County and
authorize the Chairman to sign the Resolution and execute the agreement.
