EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to confirm the appointment of Mr. Daniel Rodriguez to the position of Deputy
County Manager.
OBJECTIVE: To have the Board of County Commissioners confirm Dan Rodriguez as the Deputy
County Manager.
CONSIDERATIONS: Due to a recent resignation, it is necessary to fill this critical leadership position.
The Deputy County Manager serves as the chief operating officer assisting the County Manager in the
management and oversight of all aspects of Agency operations, finances and human resources.
Mr. Rodriguez is highly qualified to serve the organization in this capacity. His extensive local
government experience, proven leadership skills, formal education and demonstrated management
abilities make him an ideal selection for this position. His vast knowledge of Collier County government
operations, including a long history of effective working relationships with Constitutional Officers and
the business community, further supports this recommendation. Mr. Rodriguez’s resume is attached. The
Deputy County Manager will be authorized to act on the County Manager’s behalf during the latter’s
absence and will have full authority over the operating Departments and Executive staff.
FISCAL IMPACT: Mr. Rodriguez will earn an annual salary of $175,000.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney. Section Six (a)
11 of Ord. No. 2013-40 (the Collier County Administrator’s Ordinance) provides as follows: “The
County Administrator shall be responsible for the administration of all departments that are responsible to
the Board and for the proper administration of all affairs under the jurisdiction of the Board. To that end,
the County Administrator shall by way of enumeration and not by way of limitation, have the following
specific powers and duties to: …Select, employ and supervise all personnel and fill all vacancies,
positions or employment under the jurisdiction of the Board except the County Attorney. However, the
employment of an Assistant County Administrator, and all Department Heads shall require
confirmation by the Board.” (emphasis added). Accordingly, this item is approved as to form and
legality, and requires majority vote for confirmation.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no impacts to the Growth Management Plan with
this action.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners confirm the appointment of Daniel
Rodriguez to the position of Deputy County Manager.
