EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize issuance of County -owned laptops and/or cell phones to Collier
County Planning Commission members for use during their service.
OBJECTIVE: To determine that any cost associated with the issuance of County -owned laptops and/or
cell phones serves a valid public purpose.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Planning Commission is a quasi-judicial committee assisting in the
formulation and review of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Land Development Code, and
amendments to both. Their recommendations are submitted to the Board of County Commissioners for
final decision. There is one member from each of the five County Commission Districts, and two at -
large environmental members. Terms are four years.
Planning Commission members are uncompensated volunteers performing in an essential capacity
augmenting the particular and considerable work needed to support the Board of Commissioners in
their decision making. It is, therefore, in the best interest of the public to provide them with the tools
needed to efficiently and effectively perform these duties.
Inventory records will be kept with the issuance of any public property and Planning Commission
members will be responsible for loss or damage.
FISCAL IMPACT: Fiscal impact is approximately $780/year per phone. Laptops are issued from
existing inventory
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County attorney, is
approved s to form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To authorize the issuance of County -owned laptops and/or cell phones to
Planning Commission members for use during their service and recognize that the expenditure serves a
valid public purpose.
