A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, DECLARING ITS SUPPORT OF THE
FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION
AQUATIC PLANT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, § 369.20, Florida Statutes, also known as the"Florida Aquatic Weed Control
Act," empowers the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission ("FWC") to direct the control,
eradication, and regulation of noxious aquatic weeds, and also to promote, develop, and support
research activities directed toward the most effective and efficient control of aquatic plants; and
WHEREAS, the FWC's Aquatic Plant Management Program designs, funds, coordinates,
and contracts invasive nonnative aquatic plant control efforts in Florida's 1.25 million acres of
public waters; and
WHEREAS, invasive aquatic vegetation has traditionally been managed largely by
chemical spraying, but FWC is interested in developing innovative solutions which minimize the
use of chemical spraying to control the proliferation of invasive vegetation in Florida's waterways;
and
WHEREAS, FWC is currently reviewing new technologies which would provide
innovative solutions to the control of noxious aquatic weeds. ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby declares its
support of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's mission to control, eradicate,
and regulate noxious aquatic weeds, and fully supports its efforts to develop and encourage new
technologies and innovative solutions that may reduce chemical spraying of Florida's waterways.
THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED after motion, second and majority vote on this the 22nd
day of September, 2020.
