EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve Amendment No. 01 to Agreement No. 4600003935 with the South
Florida Water Management District to extend the agreement to September 21, 2021, for the
Cocohatchee and Palm River Dredging Project (33606).
OBJECTIVE: To extend the agreement with the South Florida Water Management District Big
Cypress Basin, to facilitate the removal of built-up silt in a portion of the Cocohatchee and Palm Rivers,
restoring the conveyance capacity of the downstream receiving waters.
CONSIDERATIONS: On December 11, 2018, (Agenda Item 16A.21) the Board of County
Commissioners (Board) approved funding agreement (Agreement No. 4600003935) with the South
Florida Water Management District (District) for completion of removal of built -up silt in the tidally
influenced portion of the Cocohatchee and Palm Rivers. The site is located on the north side of
Immokalee Road, approximately 0.4 miles east of Goodlette Road.
Per the agreement, the District agrees to contribute funds, and the County agrees to perform the work.
The District contribution will reimburse the County up to $388,000 or 50% of the expenditures for the
project. The work will remove the current silt build-up in the waterway, restoring the conveyance
capacity of the downstream receiving waters.
The project has been delayed due to delays in permitting, and the South Florida Water Management
District has agreed to extend the period of performance in order to allow sufficient time for the project
to be completed.
FISCAL IMPACT: Approval of Amendment No. 01 will allow the continuance of the prior approved
funding for the Cocohatchee and Palm River Dredging Project. Project Number 33606.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: Approval of this item is in accordance with the goals and
objectives of the Drainage Sub-element of the Growth Management Plan.
RECOMMENDATION: To approve Amendment No. 01 to Agreement No. 4600003935 with the South
Florida Water Management District to extend the agreement to September 21, 2021, for the Cocohatchee
and Palm River Dredging Project (33606).
