EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a budget amendment recognizing $1,060,400 in revenues and
expenditures in the Sheriff’s Office FY2020 General Fund budget.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval of a budget amendment recognizing $1,060,400 in revenues and
expenditures in the Sheriff’s FY2020 General Fund budget.
CONSIDERATION: The Sheriff’s Office is called upon to provide a significant amount of
miscellaneous service during a fiscal cycle. These services include special detail contracts, sexual
predator collections, inmate medical and subsistence needs, inmate housing and provision of inmate labor.
These services are self-sustaining in that they require no Board of County Commissioner funding and are
paid back through services fees charged. The fees charged for these services are defined by review of
historical cost trends and as such, approximate cost. Any unspent fees are turned back to the Board after
the close of the fiscal year.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds totaling $1,060,400 will be budgeted in various revenue categories and
corresponding personal services and operating expenditure categories. This executive summary has no
impact on the Board’s General Fund budget.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal
issues, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the attached
amendment to the Sheriff’s General Fund budget.
