EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint two members to the Coastal Advisory Committee.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint two City of Marco Island representatives to the Coastal Advisory Committee.
CONSIDERATIONS: This 9 member committee was created on February 13, 2001 by Ordinance 2001-
03 to assist the Board of County Commissioners with its establishment of unified beach erosion control
and inlet management programs within the unincorporated and incorporated areas of Collier County, and
to advise the Board of County Commissioners and the Tourist Development Council (TDC) of project
priorities with respect to funding sources that are available to Collier County for restoration and
protection of its shoreline. The committee is composed of 3 members from the unincorporated area of
Collier County, 3 members from the City of Naples and 3 members from the City of Marco Island.
Appointments of members from the City of Naples and the City of Marco Island shall be appointed from
a list containing one or more qualified applicants submitted by the respective governing bodies of those
Cities. Selection for membership on this committee will be based upon the applicant’s familiarity with
coastal processes, inlet dynamics, coastal management programs, or demonstrated int erest in such
programs; relevant education and experience; leadership and involvement in community affairs; and
willingness to attend meetings and to undertake and complete assignments. Terms are 4 years. A list of
the current membership is included in the backup.
Two seats representing the municipality of Marco Island are currently vacant on this committee. The
vacancies were advertised and the following applicants have been proposed by the City of Marco Island:

CITY OF MARCO ISLAND RECOMMENDATION: At its meeting on May 18, 2020, under agenda
item 13B, the Marco Island City Council voted unanimously to recommend Mr. Roth and Council
Chairman Brechnitz for appointment as its representatives on this committee. Mr. Roth shall fill a four -
year term expiring on May 22, 2024; Chairman Brechnitz shall fill the seat vacated by the resignation of
Councilman Sam Young, expiring on May 22, 2023. A recommendation letter and agenda item from the
City of Marco Island are included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the City of Marco Island
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointments.

BACKGROUND:
The Collier County Coastal Advisory Committee (CAC)was established in 2001 to assist the Board of
County Commissioners (BCC)with its unified beach erosion control and inlet management programs,
and advise the BCC and the Tourist Development Council (TDC)of project priorities with respect to
funding sources that are available for restoration and protection of our shoreline.
The nine member CAC is composed of three members from the unincorporated area of Collier
County, three members from the City of Naples, and three members from the City of Marco Island.
The current CAC members representing the City of Marco Island are:Former Councilor Sam Young,
Ms.Debbie Roddy,and Mr.Stephen Koziar.Both Mr.Young and Ms.Roddy have resigned from the
committee.
The appointment to the CAC has been advertised locally.Applications have been received from the
