EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Grace Angel, Public Services Animal Care Specialist, as the April
2020 Employee of the Month.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant
contributions to the organization and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Grace has been an Animal Care Specialist with Domestic Animal Services since
December 2018. Since that time, Grace has proven herself as invaluable member of the Shelter
Operations Team.
Grace is one of the Domestic Animal Services front desk employees. She handles even the most
challenging public interactions amazingly well, and regularly offers her assistance to other team
members. Grace has taken the initiative to improve the educational materials that are provided to
customers, particularly for adopters. Most recently, Grace researched adoption information that could be
provided to all adopters, to ensure they had the resources to make a successful transition with their new
family member; and now, the hand-out, “Congratulations On Your New Family Member!” is included in
all the adoption folders.
After expressing her desire for continuing education, specifically related to animal welfare in animal
shelters, Grace was given the green light to explore opportunities with Maddie’s University, a well-known
and respected Learning Management System for animal shelters. Grace was able to establish a
customized learning plan for DAS Shelter Operations team members. Now during the uncertain times of
COVID-19, because of her efforts, compromised and/or high-risk team members have the ability to
perform some work from home; an opportunity that otherwise would not have been available before the
establishment of these DAS specific learning tracks.
Grace is quick to provide assistance, extremely flexible, and more than willing to change and adapt as
needed. She’s often one of the first employees who responds to requests for assistance. Her smile and
unfailing sense of humor consistently put our customers, team members, and volunteers at ease, and this
is why she is so deserving of the Employee of the Month recognition
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Employee of the Month” receives a $150.00 cash award. Funds for
this are available in the employee’s budget cost center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with
this Executive Summary.
