P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, the month of May is National Bike Month; and
WHEREAS, bicycling plays an important role in the lives of millions of Floridians; and
WHEREAS, bicycle usage promotes health and wellness and helps to encourage citizens
to develop habits of physical activity to become or stay fit; and
WHEREAS, riding bicycles increases roadway and parking capacities by reducing the
number of cars on the roads; and
WHEREAS, for many residents of Collier County, the bicycle is an important means of
transportation; and
WHEREAS, Naples Pathways Coalition conducts the Lights for Bikes Program, funded
by the Community Foundation of Collier County, to provide bike lights,
safety gear, and language appropriate safety information to low-income
bicycle commuters; and
WHEREAS, the National Ride of Silence will be on May 20th to honor and remember all
the people who have been killed while bicycling; and
WHEREAS, Naples Pathways Coalition supports the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory
Committee and the Collier Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to
improve the County’s infrastructure to better accommodate all road users;
and
WHEREAS, Naples Pathways Coalition partners with the Collier MPO and the City of
Naples to publish a county-wide map highlighting bike lanes, paved
shoulders, sidewalks and multi-use pathways to better equip residents and
tourists to choose active transportation; and
WHEREAS, Naples Pathways Coalition has developed the concept of and is furthering
the development of the Paradise Coast Trail, which is envisioned to be a
70+ mile trail built exclusively for safe and enjoyable walking, running and
biking;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that May 2020 be designated as
NATIONAL BIKE MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12th Day of May 2020.
