Agenda 02/25/2020 Item #5A (Presentation - Supervisor of the Year)02/25/2020 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to recognize Chris Johnson, Manager-Financial and Operational Support, Growth Management Department as the 2019 Supervisor of the Year. OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of a supervisor who has mad e significant contributions to the organization or to our community. CONSIDERATIONS: As part of the County’s formal recognition program, each year the Human Resources Division solicits nominations from staff to highlight the accomplishments of a supervisor who exemplifies the characteristics of great leadership in either one special project or continually throughout the year. This year, 38 nominees were considered, and Chris Johnson, Growth Management Department, Financial & Operational Support Manager, has been selected as the Supervisor of the Year for 2019. Chris has been with Collier County since 2007. Looking at his career, it’s easy to cite his professional accomplishments; CPM graduate; Bachelor’s in Accounting, and Master’s degrees in both Accounting and Business Administration, but there is so much more to Chris and his success in Collier County. His willingness to support his team, and his keen awareness of individuals' strengths and weaknesses and ability to bring out the best in his people have helped him create a dynamic team to meet the needs of their large and growing internal customer base. He is goal-oriented and guides his team with meaningful purpose. Chris coordinates the annual budget process for many divisions within GMD; he and his staff helped develop $116 million in operating budgets, and $172 million in capital budgets during the FY20 budget process. The Florida Department of Transportation recognized Collier County as a model agency statewide for the successful delivery of Local Agency Participation projects. This accolade was earned, in large part, by the hard work and diligence of Chris and his team. Chris excels at identifying priorities and executing plans to accomplish his goals. His ability to manage resources, including people, time and money, is his greatest talent. He is patient and understanding with his staff and gives them clear direction and focus. He is a passionate business manager and steward of County funds and this is why he is so deserving of the Supervisor of the Year award for 2019. FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Supervisor of the Year” receives a $250.00 cash award. Funds for this are available in the Division budget for this program. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with this Executive Summary.
