Agenda 12/10/2019 Item #10A (2020 Conservation Collier Referendum)12/10/2019 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to approve and request the Chairman to sign a Technical Advice and Assistance letter from The Trust for Public Land and The Nature Conservancy in connection with public polling of citizens to ascertain the ballot language for the 2020 Conservation Collier referendum. OBJECTIVE: To authorize the Chairman of the County Commission to sign a letter requesting the technical advice and assistance from The Trust for Public Land and The Nature Conservancy in connection with their efforts to develop and sustain reliable, ongoing sources of funding for floodplain management, water quality protection, land conservation, parks, and any other related priorities. CONSIDERATIONS: The Trust for Public Land and The Nature Conservancy may undertake feasibility research, including studying local laws and recent elections; conducting a public opinion survey; providing recommendations regarding program design; and assisting with the development of strategies for supporting dedicated, ongoing sources of public funds for identified purposes. Information provided to Collier County will be public record as a matter of law. This request does not in any way commit public funds to the efforts of The Trust for Public Land or The Nature Conservan cy related to this request, nor does it require public disclosure of any confidential information of either organization. FISCAL IMPACT: There is a no fiscal impact related to this issue. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this item. LEGAL CONSIDERATION: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality, and requires a majority vote for approval. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: The Board of County Commissioners approves the Technical Advice and Assistance letter and authorizes the Chairman to sign it. We are interested not only in the factual information that you can provide, but also your opinions and recommendations on public funding measures available to us and strategies to enact such measures. That would include understanding the public’s priorities and attitudes regarding floodplain, water quality and natural land protection in Collier County.
