PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Library of Collier County, Inc., have contributed more than
$1 million in the last 10 years to fund the expansion and enhancement of
educational, recreational and technological needs at all Collier County Public
Library branches; and,
WHEREAS, the Friends pay every year for several hundred adult and children's educational
and cultural programs, genealogy databases and reference books, equipment for
library program users, and for branch enhancements not met due to budgetary
constraints—all of which enable the Collier County libraries to better serve
county residents; and,
WHEREAS, the Friends sponsor and contribute toward annual luncheon lectures by nationally
known authors, breakfast lectures by nationally known non-fiction authors, the
Local Author Book Fair, Senior Services Mail-a-Book needs, volunteer
appreciation events and various other library related needs—all of which broaden
the horizons of Collier County's citizens, children and families; and,
WHEREAS, the work of the Friends highlights the fact that our libraries are the
cornerstones of the community, providing opportunities for all to engage in the
joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from
ages past to the present; and,
WHEREAS, the Friends' gift of their time and commitment to the Collier County libraries
provides an example of how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and
the betterment of our community.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October 20 - 26, 2019, be designated as
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY WEEK
IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 22nd Day of October 2019.
