RESOLUTION 2006- 145
A RESOLUTION PURSUANT TO SECTION 101.001(1), FLORIDA
STATUTES, ESTABLISHING PRECINCT 505 AND ALTERING
PRECINCT BOUNDARIES IN PRECINCTS 155, 193, and 479.
WHEREAS, the number of electors residing in Collier County
continues to increase and ~ 101.001(1), Florida Statutes, authorizes the
Board of County Commissioners in each county, upon recommendation and
approval of the Supervisor of Elections, to alter or create precincts for voting
in the county; and
WHEREAS, such recommendation and approval has been given by
the Supervisor of Elections to establish Precinct 505 and alter Precincts 155,
193 and 479 to: (1) promote efficiency by combining small precincts and
dividing large precincts and (2) reduce voter confusion by ensuring that
voters are placed at a polling site as close as possible to their residence; and
WHEREAS, each precinct is numbered and, as nearly practicable,
composed of contiguous and compact areas and the Supervisor of Elections
has designated or will designate a polling place at a suitable location within
each precinct; and
WHEREAS, the Supervisor of Elections, in accordance with 9
101.001(3), Florida Statutes, will maintain a suitable map drawn to a scale
no smaller that 3 miles to the inch and clearly delineating all major
observable features such as roads, streams, and railway lines and showing
the current geographical boundaries of each precinct, representative district,
and senatorial district, and other type of district in the county subject to the
elections process in the Florida Statutes; and
WHEREAS, the Supervisor of Elections will notify the Secretary of
State in writing within 30 days of this reorganization of precincts and will
furnish a copy of the map showing the current geographical boundaries and
designation of each new precinct, in accordance with 9 101.001(3), Florida
Statutes; and
WHEREAS, within 10 days after the precinct changes recommended
herein are adopted the Supervisor of Elections will post a copy of the
document describing such changes in the Supervisor's office, in accordance
with 9 101.001(4), Florida Statutes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT NOW RESOLVED BY THE BOARD
OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA
that the precincts of the following boundaries shall be changed as follows:
Precinct 155 boundaries' are changed to be contiguous with the boundaries
of the Lely Community Development District; the Key Marco Community
Development District is moved into Precinct 193; the boundaries of Precinct
479 are changed to include the Goodlette Arms Apartments; and Precinct
505 is established with boundaries contiguous to the Port of the Islands
Community Improvement District. The Office of the Supervisor of Elections
is hereby requested to prepare legal descriptions corresponding to the
changes described in the attached exhibits and incorporated into this
Resolution for review and approval by the County Attorney.
THIS RESOLUTION is adopted after motion, second, and majority
vote favoring adoption this 20th day of June 2006.
