EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept the donation of a surplus 8-ft. Wells Cargo® enclosed utility trailer
from the Florida Division of Emergency Management to the Collier County Division of Emergency
Management for the purposes of meeting the need to improve our transportation and storage of
disaster supplies and equipment.
OBJECTIVE: To improve the safety, security, and portability of hurricane shelter supplies owned by
the Emergency Management Division for deployment to Palmetto Ridge High Sch ool, which serves as
our special needs shelter.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Florida Division of Emergency Management offered on a first come - first
served basis donation of a number of surplus 8-ft Wells Cargo® enclosed utility trailers. Collier County
identified a need following Hurricane Irma to enhance and secure additional portable generators and
distributions systems for Palmetto Ridge High School Special Needs Shelter. Collier County was
approved by the Division to receive the trailer at no cost. The trailer was purchased by the Florida
Division of Emergency Management in 2008 in the amount of $6,362.67. The heavy-duty trailer is in
very good condition and well maintained. Acceptance of the donation will allow the title and tag to be
processed and the trailer placed into service.
FISCAL IMPACT: Fiscal impact is limited to title and tag transfer. Any maintenance will be supported
by the existing operating budget.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with
this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal
issues other than requiring majority vote by the Board for acceptance of the donation. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To authorize the County Manager to accept donation and ownership of an 8-ft.
Wells Cargo enclosed utility trailer from the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
