EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
RECOMMEND THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DESIGNATE THE
SHERIFF AS THE OFFICIAL APPLICA.."IT AND PROGRAM POINT-OF-CONTACT FOR AN
E91I GRANT APPLICATION, APPROVE THE COLLIER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE E91I
STATE GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATION WHEN COMPLETED, ACCEPT THE GRANT
WHEN AWARDED, AND UPON AN A WARD APPROVE APPLICABLE BUDGET
AMENDMENTS.
OBJECTIVE: To seek approval from the Collier County Commission to designate the Sheriff as the
official applicant and point-of-contact for an E911 Grant application, approve the Collier County Sheriffs
Office (CCSO) E911 State Grant Program application when completed, accept the grant when awarded,
and upon an award. approve applicable budget amendments.
CONSIDERATION:
I. The CCSO has provided emergency telephone numbcr "911" assistance for firefighting, law
enforcement. ambulance, medical, and other emergency servioes to residents of Collier County
since February 14,1978.
2. The State of Florida 911 Board provides grants to counties for the purpose of upgrading E911
systems. Funds must only be used for capital expenditures directly attributable to E9 I I services.
3. The CCSO needs unbudgeted 91 I related tecImology not already committed from E91 I reserves
for the new Emergency Services Center.
4. An E91 I State Grant Program award would support costs for a microwave network link that will
provide a safety nct for continuity of operations in the event of an emergency affecting 91 I
servIces.
5. Board approval is needed for: the Collier County Commission to be the local coordinating unit of
government for an 5911 State Grant Program, approve the Sheriff as the official grant applicant
and point-of-contact, approvc the CCSO E91 I State errant Program application whcn completed,
to authorize acceptance of the award, and upon award approve associated budget amendments.
FISCAL IMP ACT: Potential $500,000 award of funds is for unbudgeted technology. This would be an
outright award with no required local match or other expenditure.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Collier County Commission agrees to serve as the local coordinating
unit of government for an E911 State Grant Program, approve the Sheriff as the official grant applicant
and point-of-contact, approve the CCSO E911 State Grant Program application when completed, to
authorlZe acceptance of the award, and uPo: aW~Jd approve aSSOC(ed budget amendments.
