EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to Award Bid Number 07-4186 for the furnishing and delivery of
potassium permanganate to Univar USA Incorporated in the estimated amonnt of
$200,000.
OBJECTIVE: The object is to obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners, Ex-
Officio, the Governing Board of the Collier County Water-Sewer District, to award Bid Number
07-4]86 to Univar, USA Incorporated for the furnishing and delivery of potassium
pennanganate.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Water Department is responsible for operating the South County
Regional Water Treatment Plant, which receives raw water from the Tamiami and South Reverse
Osmosis weJlfields, treating the raw water and converting it into potable water. The treatment
process requires a number of chemicals, of which potassium pennanganate is one.
The bid was posted on August 2], 2007, by the Purchasing Department with ]9 vendors
requesting packages. The Purchasing Department received three bids. After review of the bids by
staff, two of the three vendors were found to be in compliance with the bid documentation. The
Public Utilities Division recommends award to the lowest responsive bidder, Univar, USA
Incorporated.

FISCAL IMP ACT: Funds in the amount of $200,000 are available in the County Water/Sewer
Fund (408). The source of funding is user fees. The exact amount of the contract will be
dependent on the potable water demand from District customers.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact on the County's Growth
Management Plan.
RECOMMENDATION: The Board of County Commissioners award Bid #07-4]86 for the
furnishing and delivery of potassium pennanganate to lInivar USA, Incorporated in the
estimated amount of $200,000.
