EXHmIT A Agenda Item r-Jo. 6F January 15, 20G8 Page 3 of 3 Dear County Commissioners, December 29, 2007 I'm requesting to speak before the commissioners due to the VanderbiJt Beach Road Extension which will pass to the north side of our two homes. It will run the whole 660' length of our property, We bought the property inl993 and built in 1997 before the concept of the road existed. The main house is 3,450s.f.under air with a total of 4,250s.f.under roof. This house was designed with a detached garage to be 30' from the north property line. Plans certified from the county are enclosed. The plans are marked received 7/24/97 and page A-7 indicates this future structure. We haven't done this yet due to two reasons. First, we built a rear guest house in 2002 for my mother and her husband Bob, my children's grandfather, to live. We moved them down here from Rhode Island due to health reasons. Bob has only thirty percent lung capacity and with the road construction's dust and traffic fumes they will not be able to enjoy the outdoors they love or quality of life they deserve. This house is 1,150s.f.under air and total of I,700s.funder roof. Second reason we haven't built the garage in the last few years is due to the road that was put on our side of the canal to save two golf courses and $72,000,000,00 of the counties money. $92,000,000.00 golf course estimate would cost and $52,000,000.00 the county estimates to purchase land, the average would be $72,000,000.00 saved by the county. The garage was going to have a bonus room above it for my son to stay when he goes to college in a few years. Both these homes were designed and physically built by us where we planned to pass them down to our two children which makes it so hard for us to let them go, but we are going to lose our total quality of life and can't stay in this situation. We love the dead end road feeling knowing the safety of our children and animals are intact, the quietness and tranquility, the abundant of wild life, the stars from no light pollution, the quietness of no trucks, cars and motorcycles, the air quality, being able to walk down the end of the road to drop a line in the canal to go fishing all the things our future grandchildren and us will miss. Do you remember in the old days where people would say I live in the house my grandfather built and lived, well that was our dream but that won't happen now because we will be on a corner lot due to this road location. The main house garage will be approx. 77' from the ROWand the guest house will be approx. 87' from the ROWand the well of the guess house will be 77'. This is way too close to the new road for any body to live with any quality of life and with the plans we had before your road comes through. Attached is an E-mail from Joe Quinta Principal Planner Collier County Transportation Planning dated 4/25/06 at the beginning of the road process stating that the county would be interested in buying us out due to quote ("difficulty in buffering your home") in other words the road is to close for your quality oflife that exists today. If the road was on the other side of the canal our lives wouldn't be in turmoil at this time and I wouldn't be asking you to take our homes and more important to ruin our dreams we planned more than a decade ago and decades to come. Sincerely, Robert and Theresa Parent
