Board of County Commissioners after twelv~ years.. of dedicated, faithful service:

WHeReAS, It is duiy noted that auring her tenure with the Board of County Commissioners, ana
more specifically with the Human Resources ~partment withIn the Administrative
Services Division, Jean faithfully and honorably served the employees and citizens of
Collier Ccunty: she also ser<ved the County well as Franchise Administration
Coordinotor, and Director of the Public Information Offlce (PIO), now known as
Communications and Customer Relations, before moving to Director of Human
Resources: and,
WH€REAS, it is rt!-ported that on a daily basis she worked dl1igD1tly and enthusiastically,
displaying a "can doH and 'move forwarcl"affitude to lead the people who reported to
her to. the. next level of growth and effiCiency: ana.

WHEREAS, having vast experience with public speaking, on-camera television work and teaching
advQ1lced placement English to high-school students; Jean actually created the in/tial
PIO Department and became very involved in the broadcasting of public meetings,
pushing to get the County their own station and becoming more involved with the
material being offered on this channe/~ She was a pioneer in expanding ,coverage of
the Board of County Commissioners' meetings, expanding information given to the
public on a show entitled "Collier 2000" that gave highlights of the Board Meetings,
and updates on on-going issues and public events around the CDUnty. Citizens' inquiries
and requests for clarification of County procedures and activities, etc.. were also
respDnckd to through this pragram," and, ,
WHEREAS, Jean has given many hours over and above her normal workday to find solutions to
employee issues, and has kept a pDsitive attitude through it all. She initiated the
new NEO-GOV on-line recruitment program that allows citizens interested in working
for the County to electronically submit their application for several jobs at a time, as
well as allowing employees to apply for internal promotions and/or job changes.. and
led Q team of very, dedicated professionals through several successful initiatives to
enhance employee retention ond employee recognition programs: and,
WHeREAS, given her laudable contributions to the well-being of the employees and citizens of
Collier County, it is fitting that we recognize Jean Merritt for her dedicated.. and
faithful service . to the Board of County Commissioners and the citizens of Collier
County from March 18, 1996 to :ranuary lB. 2008.
