following the September 1 J, 2001 terrorist attacks, American
and Allied Forces began conducting- military operations in
Afghanistan and Iraq in suppa"" af th~ Blabal War an Terrorism:

more than one million troops have been deployed to _ the Middle
East since the invasion began, nearly 210,000 American forces
continue to rotate in and out of the Middle East. and countless
WI'll be re-deployed for a second orthird tour: and,
local businessman Homer Helter recognized the hardships troops
face whJ1e deployed to the Middle €ost and orgon/zed a care...
package initiative in an effort to show his support ami to providte
them wIth items from home: and.
since 2004, Homer Helter, local business owners.. Qnd concerned
Collier County residents, have donated more than 12,000 Ibs. of
goods (ranging from candy tD clothing) and $20, 000 worth of pre-
paid calling cards to OlJrtroops In Iraq and Afghanistan, and will
soon distribute more than 10,000 beanie babies. to Iraqi children,~
and,
Homer Hefter has personally donated more than $10,000 toward
the cost af shipping the care packages overseas,' and,
in addition to his role as Q devoted veteran supporter, he has
dedicated himself tc improving the community. through charitable
work with the Marine Corps League of Naples, and is an active'
member on many local boards including. the Holocaust Museum' of
Southwest Florida,' and.
the Collier County Board of County. Commissioners would like to
express its appreciation to Mr. Helter and 011 Col1ier County
residents who support our veterans, andjoin them in wishing our
troops a safe return home.
NOW THEREFOR€, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that January 15, 2008, be designated as
Support Our Troops Fighting the Global War on Terrorism Day
