EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award bid # 08-5013, Safety Equipment and Supplies to a primary,
secondary and tertiary vendor, based on the lowest and most qualified bids.
OBJECTIVE: That the Board of County Commissioners approves primary, secondary
and tertiary vendors for the provision of Safety Equipment and Supplies.
CONSIDERATIONS: A bid for safety equipment and supplies was posted in the
Purchasing Department on October 19, 2007. Six (6) bids were received on November
11,2007.
Upon review it was determined that three (3) bidders were responsive to the
specifications of the bid document, which evaluated pricing and the ability to supply the
breadth of supplies and equipment needed by County departments. It is recommended
that the bid be awarded to these three vendors on a primary, secondary, and tertiary
basis. By awarding the bid to three vendors, Departments can be assured that they will
receive quality products and timely service that may not be capable through a single
primary vendor not capable of providing a product within the timeframe necessary.
The recommended vendors would be awarded the bid in the following manner:

Primary Vendor - Safety Products Incorporated
Secondary Vendor - Ritz Safety LLC
Tertiary Vendor - Grainger
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are budgeted within Departmental operating budgets for the
purchase of safety equipment and supplies.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners awards the Safety
Equipment and Supplies bid, # 08-5013 to Safety Products Incorporated as the primary
vendor; Ritz Safety LLC as the secondary vendor; and Grainger as the tertiary vendor.
