PROCLAMATION
WH~E:AS, Fire Chief Donald R. Peterson has diligentfy served the residents af the Golden Gote
Fire Control and Rescue District for 27 years and is the longest serving fire chief in
Collier County history; and.
WH~E:AS, under Chief Peterson's leadership. the fire district created four new strJtions and
added numerous firefighters and equipment to better protect a population that has
grown exponentially since 1980; and,
WH~E:AS. the Golckn Gate Fire District was the first in the county to support a joint
emergency services facility consisting of fire, emergency medical services and low
enforcement: and,
WH~E:AS. the Golden Gate Fire District's light technical rescue team became the first in Florida
to complete all strJte-mandated troining; and,
WH~E:AS. Chief Peterson was instrumental in protecting the Golden Gote E:strJtes from numerous
wildfires, structure fires, hurricanes and ather disasters throughout his tenure as
fire chief, serving as a knowledgeable incident commander, strike team leader and
liaison to state and national agencies; and,
WH~E:AS, the fire district has never had a line-of-duty death; and,
WH~E:AS, Chief Peterson has mack numerous persanal and professional sacrifices to ensure the
~ safety of the residents of the Golden Gote Fire Control and Rescue District.
NOW TH~E:FORE:, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, recognize
Chief Donald R. Peterson
far his lifetime career af serving Collier County. We thank you endlessly and wish
you well in your retirement.
