PROCLAMA TION
WHE~r=AS# each year in Florida, lives are endangered: money and time aN
wasted,' and properly ;s destroyed because people fail to locate
underground facilities before begiMing excavation or ckmolition;
and,
WHEREAS, Govemor Charlie Crist recently issued a proclamation endorsing
the protection of underground utilities and the observance of "Call
Sefore You Dig" month during the month of April, ZOO8; and,
WHeREAS, "Call Sunshine", a otic-call center that notifies participating utility
agencies of plans to engage in exctJvation or demolition, is a free
service to professional contractors and home owners: and,
WHEREAS, Collier County advocates the enforcement arid compliance with the
Florida Statutes and local ordinances with regard to protecting
underground utilities: and,
WHEREAS. anyone planning any type of excavation or demolition should nOTify
"Call Sunshine, Hand if a utility line must be located, locating
persoMel will be sent to mark the location of the buried line at
no cost to the inquiri"9 party: and,
WHEREAS, Collier County recognizes Collier County ond the City af Naples
Underground Damage Prevention ~ask Force as that group of
utility providers and local government agencies that are dedicated
to the protection of underground ,facilities and the community's
infrastructure through education and enforcement.
