EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award Bid # 08-5046 "Purchase and Installation of Hurricane
Shutters on the Main Government Complex" to Jansen Shutter and Specialties in
the amount of $105,102.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to award Bid # 08-
5046 "Purchase and Installation of Hurricane Shutters on the Main Government Complex" to
Jansen Shutter and Specialties in the amount of $1 05,102.
CONSIDERATIONS: Currently, Collier County Government's Human Resources Building
(Building B), Purchasing Building (Building G), Chiller Plant (Building K), Facilities Management
(Building W), and Risk Management Building (Building D) do not have Hurricane Shutter
protection. The proposed project will provide shutter protection to these facilities.
This project will be 75% funded by a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program reimbursement by the
Florida Department of Community Affairs, Division of Emergency Management. The Board of
County Commissioners approved the submittal application for this project on September 12,
2006, and then for the final agreement on November 13, 2007. Staff received the executed
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program contract for this project in March.

There were two hundred seventy-six (276) bid notices sent and sixty-two (62) bid packages
requested. January 31, 2008, was the bid opening and sixteen (16) bid paCkages were
received. The bid was awarded by using the lowest bidder as preference.
FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of this project is $105,102, with 75% ($78,826) eligible for
reimbursement at the completion of the project, leaving a cost to the County of $26,276. The
Department of Facilities Management has the necessary funding available within its 301 Capital
Maintenance Budget.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners awards Bid # 08-5046
"Purchase and Installation of Hurricane Shutters on the Main Government Complex" to Jansen
Shutter and Specialties in the amount of $1 05, 1 02.
