Recommendation to authorize the County Attorney's Office to amend Ordinance 98-114 in order
to accurately reflect changes to the Goodland/Horr's Island Fire Control District.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain authorization from the Board of County Commissioners (Board) to amend
Ordinance 98-114 in order to accurately reflect changes to the Goodland/Horr’s Island Fire
District resulting from annexation of Horr’s Island (Key Marco) by the City of Marco Island.
CONSIDERATIONS:
On December 15, 1 998, the Board adopted Ordinance 98-114 (Agenda Item 17B) establishing the
Goodland/Horr’s Island Fire Control District Bya 2004 referendum, the City of Marco Island
annexed the area known as Horr’s Island (Key Marco), thereby adopting the area into the City of
Marco Island Fire District. Fire Control service to Goodland Island is currently provided by the City of
Marco Island, via an interlaca! agreement with the Board. It is necessary to amend the original Ordinance
in order to reflect these changes to the Fire Control District. An amendment to Ordinance 98-114 would
correct the boundaries of the Fire Control District, as weli as remove the name “Horr’s
Island” from the title of the Fire District A copy of the original ordinance is attached to this
Executive Summary.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this Executive Summary.

GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed for legal sufficiency and is legaliy
sufficient for Board action. -JW
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorize the County
Attorney’s Office to amend Ordinance 98-114 to accurately reflect changes to the
