EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
RECOMMENDATION THAT THE COLLIER COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS ADOPT A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ONGOING
OPERATIONS OF EVERGLADES NATIONAL BOAT TOURS, INC., FOUNDED
IN 1959, AND OWNED AND OPERATED FOR 49 YEARS BY SAMMY
HAMIL TON. (Commissioner Jim Coletta)
OBJECTIVE: Everglades National Boat Tours, Inc., which was founded in 1959 and
has been owned and operated by Sammy Hamilton for 49 years, is presently involved in a
dispute with the National Park Service over its operating permit. I am requesting that the
Board adopt a Resolution urging the National Park Service work to resolve all of the
permitting issues, and to allow the Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc., to continue
to conduct its long-standing operations, offering its exclusive educational and cultural
tours and concessions to Everglades City visitors and the community, while employing
local residents who otherwise might not have local employment.
CONSIDERATIONS: The citizens of Collier County, Everglades City, and the general
public all desire that the Everglades National Boat Tours Inc., continue to operate its
traditional businesses, which has long been a part of the Everglades City culture. An
adopted resolution may help to ensure that this important and long-standing local
business is allowed to continue its operations.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: The National Park Service's challenge to
Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc.'s operation permit could hinder the
Company's ability to provide economically beneficial, enjoyable, and informative
activities to the visitors and rcsidents of Everglades City,
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: The County Attorney has approved the attached
Resolution for legal sufficiency. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Collier County Board of County Commissioners
urges the National Park Service to work to resolve all of the permitting issues, and to
allow the Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc., to continue to conduct its long-
standing operations, offering its exclusive educational and cultural tours and concessions
to Everglades City visitors and the community. while employing local residents who
otherwise might not have local employment.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO
SUPPORT THE ONGOING OPERATIONS OF EVERGLADES
NATIONAL PARK BOAT TOURS, INC., FOUNDED IN 1959, AND
OWNED AND OPERATED FOR THE LAST FORTY-NINE YEARS
BY SAMMY HAMILTON.
WHEREAS. the Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc., established forty-nine years
ago, has continuously been owned and operated by Sammy Hamilton; and
WHEREAS. the Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc., is a traditional and principal
business, consistent with the Everglades City culture; and
WHEREAS, the Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc. desires to continue to offer
its exclusive educational and cultural tours and concessions to Everglades City visitors and the
community; and
WHEREAS, the Everglades National Park Boat Tours, Inc., clearly promotes the
Everglades City tourism industry; and significantly benefits the Everglades City economy by
providing work for twenty-four people; and
WHEREAS, the National Park Service has challenged the Everglades National Park
Boat Tours, Inc. operation permit, hindering the Company's ability to provide economically
beneficial, enjoyable, and informative activities to the visitors and residents of Everglades City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: we urge the National Park
Service work to resolve all of the permitting issues, and to allow the Everglades National Park
Boat Tours, Inc.. to continue to conduct its long-standing operations, offering its exclusive
educational and cultural tours and concessions to Everglades City visitors and the community,
while employing local residents who otherwise might not have local employment.
