Agenda 06/24/2008 Item #16E 5 Agenda Item No. 16E5 June 24, 2008 Page 1 of 4 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to approve Addenda A to the contract with Coastal Training Technologies, Corporation in the amount of $21,500 for additional courses to Collier County's existing online safety training program. OBJECTIVE: To provide additional online safety training courses for the benefit of Collier County Employees. CONSIDERATIONS: Collier County Government voluntarily abides by all rules and regulations for the establishment of a workplace free from recognized hazards as established by the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970 (OSHA). These rules and regulations are covered in the Code of Federal Regulations (29-CFR), 1926 for Construction and 1910 for General Industry. Each Department complies with OSHA's Code of Federal Regulations, as established by Risk Management and CMA #5902, Workplace Safety & Health. Employee training is an integral component of any environmental, health and safety program and helps to reduce costs associated with property damage, third party claims, injuries and illnesses, thus reducing workers' compensation, property and other liability costs. Online Safety Training has proven to be a proactive and cost effective tool. This method of program delivery has allowed employees to spend less time traveling to and from classroom training sessions, thus reducing overall costs associated with safety and health training. While Online Safety Training cannot serve as the only form of safety training, it does meet core safety training requirements and supplements ongoing training efforts by Risk Management and department specific safety staff. Currently, the Claritynet Online Training System provides Collier County with 6 core classes that are being utilized by a maximum of 900 employees (seats). Addenda A provides for 12 additional courses and up to 2500 "seats" that have been determined to be of need by our employees in order to meet our training requirements. Staff is requesting the addition of $21,500 to this contract, originally in the amount of $29,000, for a total of $50,500 for the training period ending 12/30/08. FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are available within Fund 518, Workers' Compensation Insurance for this purpose. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management associated with this item. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves Addenda A adding the amount of $21 ,500 for additional courses to Collier County's existing online safety training program and authorize the County Manager or his designee to execute Addenda A.
