EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to waive Emergency Medical Services charges for the
transport /evacuation of a special needs patient during the Golden Gates Estates fire
in the amount 5761.25.
OBJECTIVE: To waive ambulance fees in the amount of $761.25 for a special needs
patient who was evacuated due to patient's proximity to recent fires near Everglades
Boulevard.
CONSIDERATIONS: On May 29, 2008 Emergency Medical Services transported a special
needs patient from the patient's home to an emergency shelter. Due to the patient's
condition, and the nearness of the fire to the patient's residence, EMS was called to
evacuate the patient for safety reasons.
FISCAL IMPACT: Reduction in ambulance fees in Fund 490 in the amount of $761.25.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: Ordinance No. 96 -36, Section Three authorizes the Board
of County Commissioners to waive rates, fees and charges for ambulances services for a
valid public purpose. This item is legally sufficient for consideration by the Board of
County Commissioners. - JAB
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact
resulting from this action.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners find that the waiver
of an ambulance fee in the amount of $761.25 for the May 29, 2008 transport of a special
needs patient serves a valid public purpose.
