Recommendation to award Bid No. 08 -5101, "Alarm Monitoring Services" to Dehart
Alarms Systems for fire and burglar alarm services for an estimated annual amount
of $25,000.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to award Bid No. 08-
5101 "Alarm Monitoring Services" to Dehart Alarms Systems for fire and burglar alarm services for
an estimated annual amount of $25,000.
CONSIDERATION: The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for the fire alarm and
security systems in County facilities. As part of those services and to meet Collier County and
State of Florida fire codes, many of the fire alarm systems require monitoring by a licensed, UL
listed monitoring company.
In an effort to provide competitive contracted monitoring services, a formal bid was prepared to
solicit competent monitoring services. On June 26, 2008, formal bid notices were posted and
distributed to 125 vendors. On July 17, 2008, bids were opened from 2 firms.
Within the bid document was the following formula for award:
Note: rates are to be used as an example only:
Monthly Monitoring Rate: $35.00
Labor: Hourly rate $45.00 x 10 hrs $450.00
Material: Cost $ 250.00 + 10 % _ $275.00
Total: $760.00
Staff has reviewed the bids and recommends award to the lowest bidder, Dehart Alarms Systems.
FISCAL IMPACT: Annual expenses for fire and burglar alarm monitoring services total an
estimated $25,000. Funds are budgeted under the Facilities Management operating budget cost
center 122240.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
request.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This matter raises no legal issues. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners awards Bid No. 08 -5101 "Alarm
Monitoring Services" to Dehart Alarm Systems for monitoring of fire and burglar alarm systems.
