EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award a construction contract to Bonness, Inc. for Radio Road (C.R. 858)
median improvements from lungs Way to Tina Lane in the amount of $516,505.46, Bid No. 08-
5116, Project No. 66065.
OBJECTIVE: To award a construction contract to Bonness, Inc. to construct the median
improvements on Radio Road from Kings Way to Tina Lane, in accordance with Bid No. 08 -5116.
CONSIDERATIONS: On August 11, 2008, the County advertised Bid No. 08 -5116 requesting
separate sealed proposals from contractors interested in providing construction services for the
construction of the Radio Road Median Improvements from Kings Way to Tina Lane. A non -
mandatory pre -bid meeting was held on September 26, 2008 during which contractors were
instructed to submit a bid and an alternate bid. The bid included curb removal and/or replacement
necessary to complete median access revisions to Radio Road from Kings Way to Tina Lane. The
alternate bid included the removal and /or replacement of all curb within these same limits to create a
uniform and seamless project. Please note that portions of the existing curb in this area was FDOT
Type "A" curb, whereas the County standard for median curb is now FDOT Type "F" curb and
gutter. Five bids were received and opened on September 11, 2008, and are as follows:

Bonness, Inc. submitted the lowest bid in the amount of $445,229.08 and alternate bid in the amount
of $516,505.46. The engineer's opinion of probable cost with the alternate bid was $799,683.37. Our
lowest alternate bid price is almost 35110 under our opinion of cost. Therefore, we recommend that
the contract be awarded using the alternate bid price of 5516,505.46 by Bonness, Inca
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds in the amount of $516,505.46 are available in the Transportation
Supported Gas Tax Fund 313, Project 66065.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is legally sufficient for Board action. Subject to the
Board's approval, the standard County approved construction contract will be reviewed and signed
by the County Attorney's office and presented for the Chair's signature. —SRT
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact resulting
from this project.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend that the Board:
1) Approves the contract with Bonness, Inc. for the construction of the median improvements of
Radio Road from Kings Way to Tina Lane in Naples, Florida in the alternate bid amount of
$516,505.46; and,

2) Authorizes the chairman to sign the standard construction contract following County Attorney
review.
