EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners approve and authorize
the electronic submittal of the attached Picturing America grant application to the
National Endowment for the Humanities for a collection of historical reproduction
posters to be placed on display in the Estates Branch Library in the amount of $0.
OBJECTIVE: To initiate a project/program to receive high-quality reproductions of
notable American art for display in the Estates Branch Library.
CONSIDERATIONS: The National Endowment for the Humanities sponsors this
program to provide high-quality reproductions of notable American art for display in
public libraries. If this grant application is successful, the Library will receive 20 poster-
size laminated reproductions and an educational resource book. The materials will
primarily be used at the Estates Branch Library, but will also be available for display at
other libraries.
Staff at the Estates Branch Library will provide historical 'tour guides' for the display and
publicity to notify the public. The display is intended to provide additional educational
opportunities at our libraries, and to increase use of local public libraries.

The grant provides the art work, but no actual funds. No matching funding is required.
Approved grant recipients will receive the reproductions about March 20, 2009. Posters
are displayed for the 2009-2010 school year.
The application is submitted electronically by October 31 , 2008.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact with applying for or receiving this grant.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's
Office and is legally sufficient for Board action. CMG.
