Mudd, County Manager Collier County Government Center 3301 East Tamiami Trail Naples, Florida 34112 Re: Request for Joint Meeting with Board of County Commissioners DearM~: J.: .".. At the meeting of September 2, 2008, the Marco Island City Council requested that a joint work session be held with the Collier County Board of Commissioners to discuss issues of interest or concern to both governing bodies. During the late 1990's the two bodies met a few times to review and coordinate the handoff of services between the County and the new City of Marco Island, and in many ways this next meeting offers a chance to discuss mutual issues and concerns after more than a decade of hard work. Specifically, the City Council is interested in discussing the value that the residents receive for the funding that residents and businesses of Marco Island provide through property taxes for County government and any alternatives in services and funding that the City or County envision for the near future. The City Council has expressed a particular interest in discussing EMS, the City's financial support for affordable housing, and services for which the City appears to pay a disproportionate amount in taxes and, of course, there are a number of services that the City funds with very little proportionate service in return. I expect this to be a very positive meeting, and I know that the members of City Council are looking forward to this opportunity to discuss how the County and the City can continue to provide outstanding service to residents and businesses. Our staff will work with a contact in your office to find a date and location that is mutually acceptable, and we will work with you to develop an agenda to cover any issues that are identified for this meeting, I do always appreciate your outstanding service to Collier County and to the City of Marco Island, and look forward to working with you on this issue, STT/bal cc: City Council 50 JIkJld Eagle Drive, Marco Island., Florida 34145 (239) 389-5000 FA-.X (239) 389-4359 www.cityofIna:rcoisland.com
