to restore her health. Shirley lived comfortably until she pau~d away in 1984: and.

the County had d mlnimo/ public works infrostruc1rJre and a nascent Jewish community.
During his long and distinguished caner as Q government official and civic koder. he has
been uniw:rsally admired for his diligence, expertise, and j,,~ity: am:/,
WHEIlEAS, each day, the citizens Qf C"I/ier County utl1ize. f'QQd. water, and solid waste systems that
Irv helped pIon and Cf'Cate: whl1e Jewish res/dents benefit from his inrl1YJtuntal role in
helping develDp both the Temple ShalDm congregation and the Jewish FedrtltltJIt of Collier

WHEREAS, after honorably completing his military service, IrY re-entered the City Coli. of New

WHEREAS, Irv began his professional eng/~ttrlng carttttr in New York as Plant Enolneer Df the kMtIn
Hedges Tobacco Ca. He {ate,. joined the Part AuthDrity of New.'york In 1951 where he
worked an s~n well-Icnown ftlCilitie$ as the Marge Woshington Bridge, Uncaln Tunnel
Holland Tunnel and whot is now known as Jahn r. Kennedy Ai1"pDrl. In 1957 Irv accepted a
position as a PltJI1t Enginee,. and Factary Manager with the Phdip Marris TDbDcCD Ctnnpony in
Caracas, Venezuela. In 1965 he ~turned ta the United Statu ta jain an engineering firm
in Calumbus, Ohio as the ViCe President of WDter and Wa.rte Water Design and
ConstructiDII,' and.
WHEREAS, the Collier County Jewish community has bun: enhanced immensely from the CDnslderable
service and philanthropy of Jrv Rerzon. He was President of Temple Shalom from 1986 to
1988 and again during the years 1990 to 199Z. '* was deeply Involved In the development
and construction of the C1rlginal and current bUildings housing Temple Shalom. In addition,
he was a board memMr' of the Jewish Federation of Collier County from Its inception untJ1
2005. Irv also served as the editor "f the FederDtion Star for Q period of fllle years.
He was Q fwnding board member of the Southwen Florida HoI<<:aust Museum. He ht1S alSl}
volunteered with A!'Ow Hospice and the Naples Ctlmmunfty Hospital, and serves as a
Vl'Jlunteer mediator with Collier CC1unty Courts.
